MYMODELPLACE.COM | HOW TO ORGANIZE AN EYE-CATCHING FASHION MODEL PORTFOLIO

How to organize an eye-catching fashion model portfolio:  Have you always wanted to become a model but not sure where to start?  Has the fashion and modeling industry always been an attraction for you?  Do you have 'the look'.  If so you may be asking yourself how you can get started..
How to Create a Fashion Model Portfolio | MyModelPlace.com
The first and most important step is to create a portfolio.  This can be an online portfolio or a psychical 'compcard' style portfolio.  In the past only actual physical images were accepted, but this is an outdated way of thinking thanks to the Internet.

Putting together a modeling portfolio allows you to easily present your modeling images to potential clients. This can be done online, through an agency or through the mail.  Your modeling portfolio should include a collection of images and depict you in several poses and outfits.  Don't limit yourself to headshots.  In order for potential clients to get a better idea of your appearance you will need multiple images ranging from formal wear to swimwear.
Modeling agencies usually have a set way they like a modeling portfolio to be arranged. This differs by agency, but you can put together a modeling portfolio separate from your agency portfolio or just for your own use if you are not represented by a modeling agency.  It is not always a rule to have 'standard' images, but you may want to follow certain guidelines when creating a portfolio that will be submitted to agencies.  Below are a few suggestions:
Buy a 9"x12" or 11"x14" simple black portfolio book for displaying your images. Portfolio books can be found at any art supply or photography store. Make sure you get a portfolio book and not a picture album. There is a big difference. A black portfolio book that zips shut and has two black handles is perfect.

The quality of the images in your portfolio is more important than having a large number of images in your portfolio. If you have three really great pictures, they will make for a better portfolio than using fifty not so great ones. More is not always better. Go for quality.
Larger pictures of 9"x12" or 11"x14" are better than smaller sizes. Large pictures are industry standard for portfolio use and give clients a better image when considering you for a modeling job.
Go for variety when possible. Don't put ten images of you with the same background in your portfolio. You need to show your versatility in your modeling portfolio. Avoid using multiple images from the same photo shoot or wearing the same outfit.
Choose images that show you from different angles and different shots. When possible, try to include at least one head shot, one profile, one three quarter shot, one body shot ,etc.
Show images with you dressed in different styles. For example, when possible strive for a swimsuit shot, a conservative businessperson shot, a catalog modeling type shot, an action shot, a "character" shot, a commercial product shot, and more.
As you age, remember to take out your younger pictures and replace them with current pictures. As much as models hate it, we all age. Having a modeling portfolio full of pictures from ten years ago will not do much to help your career today.
Make a good first and last impression by putting your best images at the beginning and end of your modeling portfolio. All of your images should be good, but put your favorites first and last.
Unless you are selling jewelry or the jewelry is important to the photograph, avoid too much jewelry in at least one of your headshots. This gives your potential clients a photograph where you are the focus, not the jewelry.
Try to include at least one black and white photograph in your modeling portfolio. Color images are most prevalent today, but a black and white photograph will add something special.
Consider including a resume of your professional modeling assignments as part of your modeling portfolio.

Perfect Makeup Tips for Teens at MyModelPlace.com

Makeup advice for teenagers and young teen models: Makeup adds to your already natural beauty and helps to highlight your best features.  However it is important that you use this tool correctly and not to over-do it.  Often it is a good policy to ask an adult female for advice, such as your mom or older sibling.  You might be surprised how much experience and wisdom can come from years of applying makeup!
To help get you started we have listed 6 tips for the perfect makeup for young teens.

1.  Skincare Prep: As a daily routine you should always keep your skin clean and clear.  This is especially important before applying makeup.  Also be sure to moisturize your skin.  The best skincare products will cleanse your skin without being too abrasive and will help to keep your pores clear.  Always finish your skincare regimen with a light moisturizer to hydrate and prep your face for makeup application.

2.  Foundation and Concealer: In most cases less is more, so keep that in mind when applying makeup.  Also foundation is a personal preference and it may not be the right choice for you.  The reason for this is that foundation can sometimes feel and look heavy.  Concealer is your best option for quick fixes and cover-ups, such as unexpected zits that may pop up overnight.  Be sure to choose a color that best matches your tone, then lightly dab (using a cotton swab) the areas you wish to conceal.

3.  Blush: When using blush be sure to go with a natural looks.  Blush is used on your cheeks and therefore it is important to avoid any colors that do not match your skin tone.  Try using a lightly colored bronzer for a subtle sun-kissed touch or a light pink rosy color to accentuate your natural glow. Lightly brush blush over your cheeks and finish with lighter coverage on the bridge of your nose and your forehead.

4. Eyeshadow and Liner:  Eyeshadow is a great way to bring out your eye color and draw attention to your eyes. Select a natural shade with a bit of shimmer for an everyday look (be careful not to over-do it). Brown and hazel eyes look best in warmer colors like copper and gold. Brown and green eyes really stand out with gray- and plum-colored shadows. You can also use eyeliner to accentuate your eyes, but the less-is-more rule also applies here. Use light gray and brown eyeliners to start off.

5. Mascara: A little mascara to darken your lashes is a great way to call attention to your eyes. Do you have pretty blue eyes? Frame them with a dark brown mascara. Dark eyes? Opt for a slightly darker mascara shade. To make your lashes look lifted, use an eyelash curler at the root of your upper lashes and hold it for five seconds. Then wiggle your mascara wand in an upward motion through the lashes.  By using the correct techniques on your eyes you can really make an impression.

6. Lipgloss:
To finish off your makeup apply some lipgloss. This will provide a light and natural look while also adding a shimmery glow. You can even use a lightly colored lip stain for a look that needs no re-applying. Pick a neutral pink or tan color. Apply the stain to your lips and wait for it to dry. You can finish the look with a clear lipgloss.

It takes time to create a look that works best for you, but practice makes perfect. Just aim for bringing out a more beautiful you by accentuating your best features. In time you will have a perfect technique!

Free Model Website and Free Model Registration

Have you always wanted to become a model but don’t know where to start? If you are like most people you have inquired at modeling agencies only to find out that they are very expensive and do not offer you the full exposure needed to succeed in such a competitive market. This can be very depressing if your dream is to become a model. However the good news is that you do not need to pay or go through an actual agency to start a career as a model and begin accepting modeling job offers! By registering on a modeling website you can instantly begin creating your online portfolio and start communicating directly with companies and clients. Not only is this free but your exposure is international and you will be in full control of your modeling account.

You may be asking yourself how to get started as a model on a free modeling website. Well before you begin there are some important aspects to consider. You need to seek out a modeling website that is free and does not require you to pay to be part of their community. Why? Because YOU are the talent! There are many modeling websites that make money off the hopes and dreams of young models and charge you a fee for practically everything. When you encounter this you should ask yourself what their true intention is? Is it to help you become a model or make money from people wishing to become models? Often it is the latter.

Professional model websites offer free model registration and free model promotion. In fact this often goes far beyond the website itself and includes additional marketing tools such as social media. As we all know social media is very important whether you are simply trying to connect with friends or making business connections. However social media is not specifically targeted toward modeling and this is why you need to include a website that offers free model registration.

Concerned about scams? You should be as there are many of them out there. The modeling industry is littered with stories of parents and adult models paying crazy amounts of money for representation. When considering your options it is important to understand that you are the talent and you are providing a service as well. Modeling agencies and modeling websites would not exist without you! This is why you should always be weary of any modeling website that requires payment to promote your portfolio.

You may also be wondering about starting a free model website. This is a very important aspect and one that can make the difference between getting discovered. Having your own free model website is not as difficult as you might think. In fact there are professional online companies that offer this as part of their services in order to help you gain further exposure, have more control and reach a larger audience. However it is important to consider only sites that offer all services free! Don’t pay for an ‘upgraded’ account. If the free model website has your best interest at heart then their number one goal will be to help you become successful, and not profit from your contributions toward their site.

Teen Models and Benefits of Becoming a Model

Teenage years can be a very difficult time and often young girls have to deal with the pressure of school, peers and body changes. This is further exacerbated by stereotypes pushed by our media and artificial expectation of beauty. Photoshopping is has become an industry standard in the modeling and entertainment business. Nearly anyone pictured on a magazine cover is impossibly perfect. As teen girls gush over guys and stay current on pop culture, body image has naturally become another thing to worry about.

However these pressures can be reduced by teaching your teen valuable skills of self esteem, the ability to handle rejection and the pride of success. Believe it or not such skills can be taught through teen modeling. There are many common stereotypes when it comes to teenage modeling and many are negative. This often includes eating disorders, vanity issues and problems with self esteem. However these are common issues that all teen girls face regardless of their participation in modeling events. Therefore it is important to face these issues head on and teach your teen the proper way to deal with them.

Teen modeling can help your daughter learn valuable skills that will help her throughout her teen years and as she becomes an adult. However it is first important to lay the groundwork for a success and confident teenager. One of the first lessons is to teach your daughter the importance of self love and acceptance. Regardless of what the glossy pop culture magazine may tell us, we are not born with perfect bodies. It is important for your daughter to learn this and to accept herself and be proud of who she is.

While you may think that teen modeling would only encourage negative stereotypes, the fact is often the opposite. There are tremendous benefits, including the ability to deal with competition, overcoming shyness and following instructions. Teen girls also learn to become leaders and often go on to have better speaking and interpersonal skills. Teens can learn to work hard and handle both success and defeat with grace. These are critical lessons that will help your teen as she becomes a woman. Contrary to popular opinions, modeling is not all about looks. Modeling is about confidence and the ability to deal with stressful and ever changing situations with grace and skill.

If your daughter wishes to become a model then the next step is finding the right avenue to begin this new adventure. Often teens are very busy with school, friends and extracurricular activities. This can raise the question, how can you help your daughter become successful at teen modeling when you go to school every day, work a part-time job, and play sports? Well the good news is you don’t have to go to New York City to get discovered. In fact finding a place to represent you as a model can be mush easier then you may think, thanks to the internet. In the past the only option was to apply for expensive agencies and hope that your daughter is represented correctly. This often removes any control you may have as a parent and places your hopes on the shoulders of the agency, which may or may not have your daughter’s best interest at heart.

However there are new ways to become a model and ‘get discovered’ and enter the world of teen modeling through online model portfolio websites and social networking. These sites are often free and have a world-wide audience. In fact many modeling jobs, events and casting calls can now be applied for online. You can also manage your daughter’s modeling account and work directly with clients to ensure that she is receiving proper exposure.

There is a great deal of money to be made in the teen modeling industry as many companies are seeking youthful models to promote their products or brands. This can range from simple print images, promotional YouTube videos and even commercials and movies! The key is to gain as much exposure as possible and having an up-to-date online portfolio can help you attain this goal.

If your daughter shows interest in modeling then don’t be afraid to encourage and help her. The benefits, when properly managed, can be tremendous both in her personal life and professional career.

Teen Modeling Jobs for Teen Models

Is your daughter interested in modeling and seeking teen modeling jobs?Well the good news is that the teen modeling industry is a vibrant and profitable market with plenty of opportunities! In fact many jobs can even be done from your home town thanks to digital imagery. Often teen models can work with local photographers to produce the required images and send the images to the companies or clients. This is a new trend in online modeling. In the past modeling was very expensive as you often had to travel to modeling events, pay model agencies and hire photographers to produce the content. However with the convenience of today’s internet most jobs are now ‘outsourced’ to models from all over the world and do not require travel.

The key is to find an online modeling website that caters to online teen models. This requires a website that allows your teen to register free, create and upload a modeling portfolio and apply for modeling jobs. There are several benefits to this type of modeling website, including the ability to be fully in control of your teen’s images and job applications. You can even speak directly to the companies and clients that are considering hiring your teen to represent their product! This control will help you to avoid the potential scams that unfortunately exist in the modeling industry.

Another crucial component of teen modeling is exposure. This can be enhanced through social media such as Facebook and YouTube. Professional online modeling websites often provide this as a free additional service. Basically this means that once you register as a model the modeling website will promote your portfolio to their existing client and through various social media channels. Many people may not be aware of this, but most viral videos are actually marketing tactics from companies that hire teen models. This is a big change since the old days of physical agencies. With today’s technology your teen’s portfolio can be viewed and promoted instantly all over the world!

You may be wondering what type of jobs are available to teen models. Well the opportunities and job types are practically endless and change with current pop-culture. Many companies are seeking teen models to promote their products, whether this is clothing brands, music, cell phones, or even viral video marketing. Teens like to see other teens that they can emulate. And this is why most companies choose teen models when considering how to promote their products. In fact the teen modeling industry is the largest and most opportunistic industry today.

However this is not a cake-walk. Despite all of opportunities, teenage modeling is probably the hardest industry to get into. This is mostly due to the incredible amount of competition. This should not deter you as competition often breeds success. Just be sure to take every available opportunity and enjoy the experience. There are many teen modeling jobs available just waiting for the right person to come along.

The Benefits of Child Modeling

When it comes to child modeling you may think that overbearing moms and spoiled kids are the biggest obstacles; but the truth is there are many variables to consider. There can be both positive and negative effects, including eating disorders, self-esteem issues and the perceived over-emphasis on appearance that a modeling career can bring. However, modeling can also be a very positive influence on a child if properly guided. There are tremendous benefits, including the ability to deal with competition, overcoming shyness and following instructions. Young girls also learn to become leaders and often go on to have better speaking and interpersonal skills.

Child modeling is very competitive and there are often more models than there are jobs. Many agencies receive hundreds of submissions every month and only a small fraction go on to receive commercial modeling assignments. This may seem a bit depressing, but there is always a chance that your child can become successful in this industry. Even if an actual paid modeling gig is not received there are still a great deal of benefits to being a model. The key is to be consistent and attend casting calls, beauty pageants, keep an up to date portfolio and apply for as many jobs as possible. You may also consider applying your child for an online modeling contest. This is an additional way to have some fun, gain exposure and perhaps win cash!

Recently the media has depicted child modeling as a dangerous and potentially harmful activity. However this is not the case. Despite the hype, research from North Carolina State University shows that competition can actually be beneficial, helping your child hone problem-solving skills and learn to win and lose gracefully. The key is for parents to “stress the basics of fair play, good sportsmanship and putting forth good effort.” In fact, modeling can teach children many valuable life lessons - but proper guidance is from parents is essential to making this work.

Many children struggle with shyness and this can be a barrier later in life. It affects the ability of the child to make friends and even land a job as they become an adult. Modeling can help a child out of her shell and learn to become comfortable working with others. This includes competing, working with photographers and attending casting calls and working with other models in beauty pageants. Each event can be an opportunity to teach your child to speak clearly, walk tall and smile. These skills will help your child throughout her life.

Children can also learn valuable skills in regards to money management. As a child model there is money to be made and you can reward your child with a percentage of her earnings from each modeling job and this will teach her how to save money and spend it responsibly. Learning the value of hard work and the importance of saving and spending is another important lesson that will serve your child as she becomes an adult. This lesson also reinforces the importance of a good work ethic and the benefits from doing a good job.

As we all know young children often have difficulty following directions and this is a very important lesson. In the modeling industry models are expected to work together, wait their turn and listen carefully to the photographer’s instructions. Each casting call, photo shoot and modeling event have different requirements and your child will have to adjust to each situation. Be sure to compliment your child on her photo shoots, not by referring to her looks, but by praising her attentiveness to direction and willingness to listen. Soon your child will gain a great sense of pride from her accomplishments and this leads to a child that is able to follow directions and adapt quickly to any situation.

The ability to handle rejection is also a very important lesson that every child must learn. There are times in everyone’s life that we experience this and it is important to learn to accept it, work harder and succeed. Rejection may seem like a harsh lesson for a child to learn, but it’s crucial to understanding the concept and learning to cope. If learned correctly rejection leads to the desire to work even harder. It is important to praise your child regardless of the outcome and let her know that you are proud of her.

Young children can also benefit from the competition of modeling by learning to relax. We have all been under stress in our lives and it is important to understand how to handle that stress. This lesson will help your child in school and in work. When mistakes happen, be a relaxed role model and don’t overreact. Instead, encourage having fun while trying your best. Practice breathing techniques focuses on positive thoughts. Learning to cope with stress is a very important lesson that will help your child throughout her entire life.

Contrary to what many may think modeling is not all about looks. It is about confidence and the ability to conduct yourself with grace and self-esteem. Children look to adults for guidance, therefore if you emphasize looks, your child will too. Instead, focus on being professional - saying “please”” and “thank you,” being punctual, waiting quietly and listening. Believe it or not behavior is often more important than appearance. Don’t be pushy, pester the casting agents or criticize the other children. Avoid focus on landing the job or online modeling contest, and help your child enjoy the experience for what it is.

It is also important to avoid common stereotypes when it comes to a model’s accepted appearance. Most people think models are skinny and to much emphasis on this can lead to eating disorders. Instead focus on healthy eating and exercise habits. Teach your child to be proud of herself and to respect her body. This will lead to a healthy self image that will increase her chance of a happy and successful life.

It is also important to always be aware of your motives in regards to child modeling. Is this your dream or your child’s? It is ok to provide motivation and even a little ‘push’, but make sure you let your child know that the goal of becoming a model must be her dream and you love her regardless of her decision in this matter.

Will real models and actors become obsolete?

Welcome to the age of digital models and actors.  As technology continues to grow we are seeing more, perhaps creepy trends in it's use.  This is especially true when it comes to replicating humans to bring back actors that have passed on or create completely different characters that do not even exist.  A recent and very controversial move by Hollywood to reproduce the late actor Paul Walker in the movie Furious 7.  Walker was killed in a car accident in 2013.  His untimely death took place halfway through the making of Furious 7.

New Age of Digital Models and Actors

It was Peter Jackson's Weta Digital was asked to complete the sensitive and arduous task of reanimating Walker for Furious 7, and its cutting-edge work points toward a future where most actors can be re-created seamlessly if needed.  While the details and specifics on how they did this remain a secret (The company declined to comment on its specific contributions), the results are clear..  It appears that we are truly entering a time in which models and actors can be reproduced at anytime, dead or alive.  This practice is not entirely new however.  For years, filmmakers have developed sophisticated techniques for replacing missing actors. Robin Shenfield, CEO of London-headquartered The Mill, which led the Oscar-winning visual effects on 2000's Gladiator, explains how that film coped when Oliver Reed suffered a fatal heart attack during filming.  Footage from outtakes was used to create a digital mask that was added to shots of a body double. "He also had dialogue, so we changed his mouth movement," says Shenfield.

However unlike techniques of the past the latest technology now allows for a virtual character that is indistinguishable from a real person.  And this leads to a lot of questions.  In the near future will 'real' actors even be needed?  Will fashion models, teen models and child models be replaced with digital creations?  We have already become accustomed to the unrealistic and near perfect images that can be created and manipulated through Photoshop and it is likely that digital created characters will also share similar qualities.  What does this mean for the fashion and entertainment industry?

Another important aspect of a storyline is to truly identify with the character.  In order for this to happen the character must be relatable.  Could you have genuine feelings for a character if you knew the character was created using high tech digital software?  Also how would the families of past actors feel to see their dearly departed loved ones appearing in upcoming blockbuster movies?  These are all interesting questions and as our technology continues to progress we will see even more potentially creepy use of digital models and actors.
